It's a flying blue elephant.

This bag is part of the Design For Chunks / Virgin Atlantic Limited Edition Collection. The bags are only available for a short time on selected Virgin Atlantic flighs between London and Manchester, Australia. I'll let the back of the bag explain.

Who says something functional can't be fun? Well, you can't get much more functional than an airline sick bag, so we decided it was time to inject a little creativity into this familiar item.

We teamed up with multimedia designer Oz Dean [www.forcefeedswede.com] who has been running an online competition called "Design For Chunks" for the last three years challenging designers from around the world to apply their creative talents to theis undiscovered art form.

A meeting of minds led to Virgin Atlantic partnering with Oz Dean for the 2004 competition. Hundreds of entries were received from around the world, from which we've chosen 20 designs to appear on our inflight sick bags which will be randomly distributed on every flight for a limited period.

We hope you find the designs fun and interesting - who knows, you might even be tempted to start collecting the whole set!

Virgin Atlantic Giant

Approximate Vintage: 2007
Received From: Jackie Hoffman Chin
Print or Image Color: White
Background / Bag Color: Red
This is by far the largest bag in the collection put out by none other than Virgin Atlantic. If you look at the 3rd scan, you'll see a 16" / 40 cm measuring device to show you just how big this bag is.

Virgin Atlantic posted these around several cities as an attention getting device to coax passers-by to read the advertising copy on the bag, which I suggest you do. It goes off on all sorts of tangents about civility of air travel and how it has changed over the years. It even mentions air sickness bag collectors.

Great bag and definitely worth a read.

Virgin Atlantic Las Vegas

Approximate Vintage: 2006
Received From: Gerd Clemens
This bag is part of the Virgin Atlantic New Destinations line of barf bags. On it, you see a Yosemite Sam-like guy with a pistol and a saguarro. The bag says "Las Vegas 6 times weekly."

Virgin Atlantic London Bahamas

Approximate Vintage: 2006
Received From: Paul Mundy
This bag is part of the Virgin Atlantic New Destinations line of barf bags. On it, you see two beautiful parrots representing the Bahamas and a pigeon representing Brits leaving trash out on their streets. Better not light up on board though! The bag says "London to the Bahamas".

This bag is the Know Your Lightsaber bag in the 4 part limited edition. It says,

Jedi Council Appproved

KNOW YOUR LIGHTSABER

The lightsaber is an elegant weapon. Not nearly as clumsy or random as a blaster, it has been carried by Jedi Knights for over a thousand years. It is respected and feared, as are those who wield it. However, if you've never taken a lightsaver into combat it can be a little tricky. Please take time to familiarize yourself with the weapon.

This bag is the Seating Jedi and Sith bag in the 4 part limited edition. It whimsically shows the layout of an airplane with the Jedi on the left side of the plane and the Sith on the right side. The bag goes on to say:

IMPORTANT... It is advised that all cabin crew familiarise themselves with the rules when seating individuals who have aligned themselves on the Light or Dark sides of the Force. This is never a simple task, but with a little care and attention you should be able to avoid conflict and maintain a happy cabin at all times.

This bag is The Art of Jedi Combat bag in the 4 part limited edition. The bag begins as follows:

The art of Jedi combat is not something that should be entered in to lightly. Often severly outnumbered and outgunned, the Jedi are renowned for their ability to quickly and efficiently dispatch muyltiple enemies at once. Before you throw yourself into a combat situation, please review the following.

The bag then explains various battle techniques which you'll just have to view the scan to see.

Virgin Australia

Approximate Vintage: 2009
Received From: Ray Cranfield
Print or Image Color: Silver, White
Background / Bag Color: Red, White
Although Ray assures me that this is from Virgin Australia, as far as I can tell, this is a marketing piece for Australian Packaging Pty Ltd. It's logo is a V with the words, "Australia. Every day a new idea takes off", plus the Southern Cross.

The copy on this bag is great! "Since we're on our way to L.A. (or from it) why not call it the Fully Sick Bag? Because words sometimes have other meanings. To us, Fully Sick actually means Totally Awesome. As opposed to, well, let's not go there. In Australia, it's also fine to ask people if they have seen one of your thongs? A question, we soon learned, isn't Totally Awesome to ask people in the USA."

Virgin Blue CD22

Approximate Vintage: 2000
Print or Image Color: Red, Blue, Black
Background / Bag Color: White
Although you can plainly see how busy this film bag is, you can't even imagine how much crap is printed inside the folds that I couldn't scan in for you to see.

This is the CD22 bag.

Virgin Blue V1

Approximate Vintage: 2005
Received From: Ron Campbell
Print or Image Color: Red, Blue, Black
Background / Bag Color: White
This film processing bag was found on an Australian Virgin Blue flight to Darwin, even though the Virgin name does not appear on it anywhere. Perhaps it's more or less generic.

This is the V1 Bag.

Virgin Blue V3

Approximate Vintage: 2006
Received From: David Shomper
This fotobag's offer is good until April 30, 2007. Better get your photos in the mail by May. Plus you can mail it anywhere in Australia for free! Need to throw up? Just puke in the bag and drop it in the mail!

The cool thing about this bag is not shown on my site, unfortunately, because a FAQ on how to take pictures is printed in the gusset.

This is the V3 bag.
